This St. Henri eatery is an old school diner that conjures up memories of homestyle restaurants from our childhoods, from its slate green window panes to its charming interior decor. Arthurs is a loving tribute to a father who loved his food and truly enjoyed life, and is quickly becoming a citywide success.

Located next door to the Adamo Pizzeria (see review on this blog), this breakfast/brunch diner offers good Jewish food, with a modern twist. The décor is nostalgic, with tables and a long diner-style lunch counter and retro backless diner stools.
If you're planning to visit on the weekends, it is a good idea to come early, as the lineups can extend outside. It is not uncommon to eat alongside people who are anxiously waiting for a seat of their own. On weekends, it gets considerably busier.

There are many tempting menu items to choose from. The food is light, and mostly brunch items. We ordered the eggs & salami, and the latke smorgasbord.
The latke smorgasbord was as the name implies -- a smorgasbord of tastiness. Scrambled eggs in broth were served with a cucumber/tomato salad, beside a potato latke topped with sour cream and apple sauce. There was a good portion of gravlax and caviar on the plate, and it was all completed with a serving of delicious Russian bread.

The treat was the chocolate babka, which we were very lucky to have, as the supply seems to run out very quickly in the day. Warmed up, and toasty, it is a great accompaniment to the full-bodied coffee that is served (appropriately named "Old School Espresso").
