Chicken or beef with rice and tortilla chips

This Mexican restaurant, on St. Laurent Boulevard, was recently recommended for its authentic meals, and we’re glad we went. Located close to Marie-Ann Street on The Main, this place is colorful and has a festive atmosphere. It feels like you’ve strolled onto a street in Mexico.
Although the restaurant may appear a bit narrow, it is quite deep. There’s a customer service counter and some tables located at the front of the house. Walking further into the restaurant, there is an elaborately decorated bar area, with bar stools if you’d prefer to eat by the bar. At the back is a spacious eating area with many tables and colorful benches. We were really impressed by the amount of detail that the owners put into the paint and décor. They’ve even got a big screen TV, for game nights.
This tacqueria has a unique way of service. Rather than having waiters come to your table to take your order, you pick up a menu while you’re seating yourself. After reviewing the menu, you go to the customer counter, place the food and drink orders, and pay. When the drinks and food are ready, they’ll be brought to your table by the waiting staff.
We love Mexican food, so we each ordered the Tres Tacos platter, which was VERY abundant. The Tres Tacos consists of 3 soft corn tortillas filled with either chicken or beef. Each homemade taco is filled with meat, and topped with avocado and salsa gringa. It’s delicious and fresh, and you won’t leave hungry.
What’s great is that you can mix and match the type of meat amongst the 3 tacos. Instead of having 3 beef tacos, you can order 2 beef and 1 chicken for the same price.
With the platter you have a choice of sides : warm tortilla chips, black beans topped with cheese, Mexican rice, or fresh salad. The black beans were delicious and tasty, and not the usual refried beans that other “Mexican” restaurants serve. The tortilla chips were so thin and crunchy, and not greasy at all. We didn’t even need any salsa. The mixed salad was equally fresh and plentiful.
Do not forget about their fantastic salsa bar. It’s located in a central area in the restaurant, and customers are welcome to help themselves, as often as they’d like, to the many salsas, jalapeno peppers, fresh cilantro, and asada dipping sauces. They’re all great accompaniments to your order, and can also serve as nice dipping sauces for your tortilla chips.
The menu offers other items, such as burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. Their daiquiris seem to be a popular item, especially for large groups of people, as well as their nachos. The plate is piled high with a choice of toppings, and looks scrumptious. There’s even a kid’s menu.
The food is great, and the décor and vibe is fun. Give it a try the next time you’re in town, or whenever you feel like eating some fresh Mexican cuisine.
