Souvlaki Bar is a new chain of Greek restaurants that serves fantastic Greek dishes, in an upbeat and fun atmosphere. The original location is in the Centropolis restaurant area in Laval, and its second location is now in Ville St. Laurent on Cote Vertu Road. Both locations are bright and spacious, and serve great food. A new location is set to be open soon in Vaudreuil, and a food court outlet is set to Central Station downtown.
Of the two locations, we’re faithful to the one in Laval. With high ceilings and an open second floor, the décor is simply beautiful. The restaurant is roomy and comfortable. The combination of wooden booths and tables accommodate any number of guests. Colorful photos of famous Greek singers and actors stand out against the white painted brick walls.
The menu offers diverse appetizers and entrees, and the bar offers drinks and shots of every kind. There are unique dishes that stand out. Literal “shovels” of meat or fries that can be ordered, and 5 mini pitas come in shot glasses. Platters come with a meat selection, a salad choice, rice and/or a choice of potatoes. The House Salad normally comes with the platters, and consists of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onions topped with a creamy garlicky dressing. The Village Salad is the famous Greek salad of fresh crunchy tomato pieces, cucumber, and red onion, with a big slab of feta cheese.
A favorite is the 1-stick Chicken Souvlaki platter with Village salad. The platter is huge, and the chicken is moist, tender, and tasty. Another good platter is the Chicken Gyro in pita platter. It’s chicken breast meat shaved from a spit, served with tzatziki and tomatoes & onions in a soft thick pita. Both platters are delicious and very satisfying.
If you have any room left, a really unique and delicious dessert to try is the Baklava Cheesecake. It’s a cheesecake covered with phyllo pastry, and topped with honey and nuts. It’s crispy, it’s soft & creamy, and sweet from the honey syrup. An absolute gift from the gods !
And new to the menu are the Loukanikos. If you've never had them, you MUST try them. They're deep fried pastry balls that are served hot, that's crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. You have a choice of the traditional honey and cinnamon drizzle, or the Nutella drizzle, OR better yet, you can have half & half ! Sheer heaven !
Give this place a try. It’s fun, it’s well priced, and the waiters are super friendly. Opa !
