All I've got to say is... Portuguese chicken.   The taste and aromas of tastily grilled chicken over charcoal instantly  comes to mind, and the mouth starts watering.

Well, this is the place to satisfy those urges.   This restaurant was suggested to us by many people, and we were not disappointed.   The delicious smell of meat grilling over charcoal, and friendly faces, greet you when you walk through their doors.  This family-run restaurant has a unique setup.  The grill/take-out counter is first thing you see as you enter.  If you are dining in, you will be lead to their dining area, which is around the corner.

The dining area is bright, and tables are well spaced.   There's a bar where you can order Portuguese beer like Super Bock.  As you sit down, you're served savory Portuguese olives and puffy Papo Secos bread as you check out their vast menu.   The choice of items that can be grilled are vast and different from the usual piri piri chicken selections.  There are sausages, steak, quail, lamb chops, sardines, and even ribs that can be grilled for you.

We decided to go with the famous chicken on our first visit.  When asked if we wanted mild or spicy, we chose spicy.   Don't worry, although intimidating looking, spicy is not super-spicy nor inedible.  There's always hot chili oil if you want to bring it up a notch.  The meals are servied with a simple green salad, and either tomato vegetable rice or delicious fries.

There are many delicious appetizers to choose from.  We chose the Cod Croquettes.   5 delicious and perfectly deep-fried croquettes arrived.  They were not greasy at all, and the coating was crunchy while the cod was tasty and fluffy.   Normally, we're hesitant to order bacalhau dishes, because if not prepared well, the taste of salt is prominent.  This dish, however, was delicious and there was no hint of its earlier life.

Our salads arrived prior to the appetizers, and paired well with the croquettes.  And then our chicken arrived.  On our first visit, we ordered the 1/4 leg meal, and were nicely full.   The chicken was moist, and the skin was crispy and seasoned.  The chicken was not greasy, so you could really taste the meat and the char.  Some extra dry seasoning was sprinkled on the chicken, since we had ordered the chicken spicy.   You can ask for some piri piri sauce, but it's totally unnecessary.

Accompanied with their light and tasty Portuguese buns, and those delicious olives, the meal was finger-licking good.   We had chosen to go with the fries, and they were fabulous.  Slightly spiced, the potatoes were not over done and were served sizzling hot.

On other occasions, we've ordered their steak and their 1/2 chicken meals.  The steak was perfectly grilled, tender, and topped with the piri piri spices.  What a meal !    Be very hungry before you order the 1/2 chicken

meal, because it is quite substantial.   Delicious, but substantial.

Of course you cannot leave without having the famous Pasteis de Nata for dessert.  No matter how full you may be, you've must order these.   There are 2 per order, and they're gently reheated so that the custard is smooth and warm when you bite into it.  Absolute heaven.  The dessert is accompanied by a shaker of cinnamon powder, which was surprisingly delicious with the natas.   Have it with a cup of their really good coffee, and you'll be happily smiling as you head out the door.

Of honorable mention is their washrooms.   It's unusual to feature an eatery's washrooms, but they are uniquely hidden in the dining room.   The doors are tiled exactly like the walls, with no outward handles, so you must know where to push in order to enter.   It's usually a good laugh trying to locate them.

The service was fast and friendly, and prices are very reasonable.  If you're planning on doing takeout, it's best to call ahead to place the order.  This place is very popular.

Situated just down the street from the famous Romados and a few steps away from other Portuguese eateries along St. Laurent Boulevard, this place is a hidden treasure and well worth a visit.
