This great little Filipino restaurant is located on Notre Dame West below Atwater.  Its no-frills décor is a reflection of the street food that the restaurant serves.   On certain nights, there's even a DJ spinning tunes.  It's a slice of Manila that's transplanted into Montreal.  They've even got a glove from the famous Filipino boxer and senator, Manny Pacquaio.  Once you've tried this place, the flavours and uniqueness of the dishes will have you returning for more.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and even serves Brunch on the weekends.

During dinner, it is highly recommended that you try a plate of the Buto Buto Ribs as a starter.  They're a great appetizer, and go perfectly with a cold beer.  Depending on the number of people at your table, you may need more than one order, as the ribs will disappear quickly.  These tender fried ribs are marinated in honey and garlic, fried with green onions, and have just a touch of heat.  Be warned ... you'll have cravings for this dish.

Don't fill yourself up on ribs, however, because there are other dishes of equal tastiness.  The Hilaw Manga Ensalada is a fresh slaw made of slivered green mango, tomato, and crunchy jicama.  It is a perfect palate cleanser after those garlicky ribs.

Other main dishes include the Palabok Noodles, which are thin rice noodles sauteed with pork and shrimp. As a good vegetable side dish, the Pinakbet is a tasty mix of long green beans, squash, okra, bitter melon, and eggplant, all stewed in a savoury tomato sauce that has a hint of shrimp paste.

One cannot forget the famous Chicken Adobo Manok.  Make sure to order a few bowls of rice because you'll need them to soak up that delicious gravy !  This famous Filipino dish consists of several pieces of tender chicken, slow cooked in a sauce of coconut milk, ginger, and lemongrass.  If the Buto Buto Ribs don't give you cravings for this restaurant, the Chicken Adobo Manok will.

For dessert, you've got to have their Cassava Cake.  Served warm, the ample serving seems simple and bland, but just one taste will get you hooked on this dessert treat.  Moist and saturated with coconut milk, this dessert is not overly sweet, and has the texture of a thick custard.

The Suman is another dessert item.  It's a steamed sticky rice dessert that is infused with coconut, and served in a banana leaf.  A sweet and creamy caramel sauce accompanies the dessert.   It is absolutely delicious and texturally unique.

BRUNCH

Not only are their dinner offerings delicious and original, they also offer brunch.  If you can make it here on weekends between 10:00 and 3:00, you're in for a treat.  This is not your regular brunch.

Their Chicken and Waffles are to die for.  The chicken is crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside, and served with a cup of maple syrup.  What sets this dish apart from other chicken and waffle meals are the waffles.   There's a hint of coconut milk in the waffle batter that makes this waffle rich and slightly sweet.  Together with a cup of their fantastic coffee, it's a killer combination !

If chicken is not your thing, there's also Lechon and Waffles.  Lechons are crispy delicious slices of fried pork belly. The waffles are the same coconut ones.

For something totally different, there are the egg and rice platters.  That's right, garlic fried rice, egg, and a meat offering for brunch, and you're going to like it too !   Each platter is served with two eggs cooked your way, savoury garlic fried rice, thin and crispy plantain chips,  and a nice crunchy papaya slaw called atsara.  Of the egg & rice offerings, we've tried (and loved) the Longsilog (lean pork longanisa sausages) and the Tosilog (lean marinated pork slices).   There's also a Tapsilog platter, which is marinated beef strips.   Either way. you'll be stuffed !

Give this place a try.  It's unusual, it's tasty, and you're gonna love it.
