It took us a long time to get here, but are we ever glad we finally did.  The 5-course seasonal menu we ordered was an absolute gastronomic adventure and delight.   OMG for H4C !

H4C is located in a trendy part of St. Henri, and occupies half of a majestic 19th century building which was once a post office (hence the postmark logo).  There is a parking lot conveniently located just beside the restaurant.  The interior is beautifully renovated, with a main dining room on the ground floor, and additional dining space on the lower floor that can accommodate large groups or parties.

The decor is classy and refined, yet comfortable at the same time.   Tables are not covered with stiff white tablecloths, but there is still an air of class and haute cuisine.   High ceilings give the feeling of spaciousness, while the well-spaced tables allow for privacy and enjoyable conversation.  A bar is centrally located, for those who would like to watch the action in the kitchen as they dine.

Prices are a bit more than the usual restaurants we frequent, but the combination of service, quality, original tastes, and plating make it an unforgettable experience.   Every dish is meticulously plated and a vision to behold, not to mention an absolute sensation to eat.   Ample time is given between courses, so that you can savor every unique dish.

Our server, Elizabeth, was very friendly and an absolute pleasure, and completed the perfect evening.  Each course was presented and meticulously described in detail by our server, who was perfectly at ease in both languages.  An added surprise to the evening was when the chef himself, Dany Bolduc, came out of the kitchen to serve our main course.  We were so dumbfounded by his presence that we were speechless.

To enjoy the experience as the chef envisioned it, we chose to order the 5-course seasonal menu.   Additional daily specials are added by the chef to the selections for appetizer and main dish courses.  There were also a few à la carte selections.  Having always gone to restaurants where we order specific appetizers and entrées, it was a unique and refreshing adventure to leave the evening in the hands of the chef.

  • The first course was an amuse-bouche, which is essentially a small biteful of food meant to awaken your tastebuds in preparation for more tasty treats to come

    • a cold Jerusalem artichoke soup was served in a ball of thin dark chocolate, topped with a crisp thin Jerusalem artichoke chip

    • the presentation on a small stone plate was fabulous. and the tasty soup burst in your mouth when you popped the ball of chocolate into your mouth â€‹  The soup was salty and flavorful, while the chocolate was sweet.  It was fabulous !

  • The second was an appetizer

    • a beautiful wafer made of morel and cep mushrooms domed over a delicate Brussels sprout mousse, accented with black garlic purée

    • flounder gravlax served in a creamy purée, with caviar scattered all around

  • The main dish

    • a generous piece of grilled arctic char is served on top of a thin layer of rutabaga stock, and is served with a quenelle of flavored mascarpone, accented with a dollop of caviar

    • light and fluffy gnudi (ricotta dumplings) were served in a tasty mushroom broth, topped with crispy Parmesan chips

  • PRE-dessert followed the main dish, just to refresh our tastebuds

    • a luxuriously rich rum sabayon that blanketed a refreshing quenelle of pineapple sorbet.  The saboyon was creamy, while the sorbet was sweet and cold   Amazing !

  • For dessert, we selected the pears poached in Belle de Brillet pear brandy, served with chocolate ganoche

    • pear brandy poached pear slices were stacked on top of two dollops of yumminess :  one was a smooth dark chocolate ganoche, while the other was a sweet and texturally grainy pear purée.  A big swirl of dark chocolate topped the whole thing off

Just when you thought the taste adventure was over, they even thought of a novel way to present you with your bill.  The bill was accompanied by some fresh and delicious crème brulée popcorn.

This isn't the type of restaurant that we normally frequent, and it does cost a bit more, but for a real treat. or to celebrate a special occasion, this restaurant meets all the criteria.   The setting is beautiful, both inside and out, and the service was fantastic and efficient.  You will taste food combinations that you would not normally find elsewhere.  For all of you foodies, it's an absolute taste extravaganza.

We came to this restaurant for dinner, but they also open for brunch on weekends.   We would highly recommend that you RESERVE in advance.
