CHEZ BONG

This Korean restaurant is tucked away on St. Laurent Boulevard at the edge of Chinatown.  It's located in a small mall, where steps take you down to the restaurant.    Although it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Chinatown and Old Montreal, it is fast becoming known for its great Korean food.

The decor is warm and roomy, and the service is fast and friendly.  Although Korean videos play on monitors along the wall, there isn't the noise and din that is found in many of the other Chinatown restaurants in the area. You can sit and eat at your own pace.   The complimentary kimchee and potatoes are delicious, and will definitely wet your appetite for more.

The seafood pancake is a definite must as an appetizer.  Filled with shrimp, squid, and julienned vegetables, it is a great dish for sharing.

The Bulgogi is brought sizzling to your table, and strips of beef are juicy, sweet, and tasty.  It goes perfectly with one of their steaming bowls of jasmine rice.  The Bibimbap is served in a hot cast iron bowl, which helps the rice at the bottom and sides of the bowl to form a nice crunchy crust.   The toppings are fresh and plentiful.

The Kimchee Tofu with Rice Pasta is a favorite.  It is spicy and tasty, with a slight chew from the rice pasta.   We also like the Japchae.  It is a dish of transparent mung bean noodles, sauteed with julienned vegetables in a sweet bulgogi style sauce.

This is one of our favorite Korean restaurants in Montreal.   If you're ever in the area, going to a show during festival season or visiting Old Montreal, take a break and try something savoury and spicy .
