If you're looking for some really good fish and chips in Montreal, look no further than Brit & Chips.  With 2 locations in downtown Montreal (McGill Street, De Maisonneuve), you can enjoy this British staple without having to leave the country.

Our preferred location is the one on McGill Street in downtown Montreal.  Located just a few blocks down from Victoria Square, it looks just like a chip shop right out of London.  During the summer, there is a beautiful terrace out in front.

No matter which location you choose to go to, each serves consistently delicious fresh fish and chips.  The decor is simple, but with ambience, and tables are well spaced.

The menu offers many types of fish, each paired with different batters.  Some batters are sweet, while others are malty and made with beer.  Speaking of beer, they've got an impressive selection of British beers that is the perfect accompaniment.

Of their many choices, we've tried the Haddock with Maple Syrup batter, and the Cod with the Burgundy batter, and have become our favorites.  The fish inside the crispy batter is juicy and moist.  Each plate is served in a basket full of homecut fries.  For health-minded customers, they offer a side salad replacement.

We always order a side of mushy peas, which are green peas cooked with butter, then slightly processed.  Fresh, sweet, and bright green in color, they're the perfect accompaniment to the fish.  There's even malt vinegar at each table, to complete the British tradition.

Other menu items include shrimp, small meat pies and pasties.  There's even scotch eggs and cod cakes.  For dessert, as in London, they even offer to deep fry "anything" for you.
