Ultimate wonton soup (you get your dumplings AND noodles in soup)

Have it with just wontons, or with noodles

We've been enjoying the food at this Cote des Neiges restaurant for at least 15 years. It got so popular at its original location that they had to move to a bigger premises --- all the way across the street. Because it's on the grounds of the Plaza Cote des Neiges, you can enter from within the mall, or from the street. Parking may seem daunting, but we've always had success finding space on the side street, Chemin Bedford.

The decor and furnishings are simple, but tables are well spaced and can accommodate large amounts of people.

The menu is vast, and the service is fast and efficient. After giving your order, the dishes come amazingly fast. If you happen to order a soup or appetizer, your main course will arrive before you had a chance to have your last bite. Portions are huge, as witnessed by the amount of people with takeout containers after their meals. They're also fully licensed, so you can enjoy your meal with a nice wine or beer. Try the Tsingtao beer, it's delicious with Chinese food.

To start, you MUST have the wonton noodle soup. The wontons are tender and full of shrimp. The noodles are perfectly cooked and provide a good balance between the wonton and the soup. This dish is always part of our order, and seemingly part of other peoples' too. You can have just the wontons in soup, but why not have it all ?

A measure for any good Chinese restaurant is their Cantonese Chow Mein. Just like a good marinara sauce at an Italian restaurant, you can judge a Chinese restaurant by the freshness of the ingredients and the success in the frying of the noodles. Kam Shing's Cantonese Chow Mein passes the test. The noodles are quickly wok-fried so that there are crispy portions and gravy-laden portions. On top of the noodles are mounds of fresh vegetables and several types of meats. There's tender chicken slices, barbecue pork slices (char suy), shrimp, calamari, and marinated pork slices. To balance all that meat, there's bok choy, brocoli, and mushrooms.

Their General Tao is a best seller, and for good reason. Morsels of chicken are breaded and deep fried, and covered with a sticky sweet and tangy sauce. You'll find that most tables have ordered the dish. The tang and little bit of heat make it irresistible.
To round off the meal, we usually order the Yang Chow Fried Rice. Rice is fried with pieces of char suy pork, shrimp, egg, and tomato, and is the perfect accompaniment for the General Tao chicken.

Feel free to wander down Cote des Neiges, and try out this place. You'll see why it's always crowded.
